Review:

Strange clockwork spiders have been spotted around Ticswyk, and only Cali, the infamous clockwork calico, can figure out what’s going on.

Cali is a unique cat. Her mannerisms are spot-on, portraying your typical feline. She loves to eat and nap, enjoys sitting in laps, and she has slight arrogance about her. Yes, she’s a typical cat, or wait, no she isn’t. She’s clockwork, enhanced by her human caretaker Lionel. He’s a master tinker, an inventor who rescued a kitten from the streets and turned her into this amazing crime-solving cat.
Geared toward middle-grade readers, this story is fun to read. I think adults who enjoy cats and mysteries will really get a kick out of this tale. The Victorian, steampunk setting is nicely written, keeping well within the genre. There are strange machines and some familiar items with strange twists, like Cali herself.
Mouse friend Emmit was a fun addition. The two play off of each other, both being highly intelligent for their respective species. A fun and quick adventure to bring down a major criminal with loads of fun action throughout. It’s a quick and entertaining read.
I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
